Joseph Mbithi Mutua (PhD Ag Eng)

Co-Founder, Secretary and Operations Director

Dr. Mutua is Co-Founder, Secretary and Operations Director of Agrimech Africa Ltd. He holds Masters and PhD in Agricultural Engineering from Cranfield University, UK. Previously, Joseph worked with KALRO as a Farming Systems Researcher where he headed the National Soil & Water Management Research Programme. He was a co-founder and Director of the Kenya Network for Dissemination of Agricultural Technologies (KENDAT). In addition, Mutua has held various positions in country networks such the Kenya Landcare Network (Chair); Kenya Eco-agriculture Working Group (Team Leader); and International Soil Tillage Research Organization (treasurer, Kenya chapter). He is the Managing Director of Lo-Tech Ventures LTD, a Kenya Registered company that specializes in agricultural and industrial equipment/implements for the small to medium-scale farmer and entrepreneur.
Dr. Mutua is a worldly travelled consultant and trainer with huge frontline farmer technology transfer experience. He has undertaken consultancy assignments at National and Continental levels in the areas of Climate Smart Agriculture, Value Chain Mechanization and Technology Transfer through training of ToTs, Machinery Operators, Artisans, the youth, and farmers. Clients include National Government, local NGOs and International Organizations such as Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Vision International (WV), German International Development Agency (GIZ), International Centre for Maize & Wheat Improvement (CIMMYT), SustaiNet-East Africa, Africa Conservation Tillage Network (ACT), World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), ADRA and CARITAS, among others.
Mutua’s life’s long ambition is to see Africa mechanize in a sustainable manner, increase production efficiency and alleviate drudgery associated with African agriculture, invariably born by our women and children.
